Japanese Lunch

We just got back from a huge Japanese lunch with Hung Ji, who was introduced to us by our great friend Robert. Thanks Robert! We ordered a lunch special sampler and the food just kept coming. Some of the standout dishes were the grilled fish (although I have no idea what kind of fish it was), the salmon sashimi, the white kimchi, and the sesame leaf tempura. We paired the food with hot Sake that had fried fish tails in it. It was really amazing. Here are a few pics of some of the dishes we had.

  1. wow! what a feast! i'm glad you got to finally meet hyungji. from the pic (4th from top), i'd guess the grilled fish was skate (a kind of a sting ray) or something similar. the fish fin in the sake is grilled fins of FUGU (aka PUFFERFISH, BLOWFISH), the most POISONOUS fish in the world! there is a trace amount of nerve-numbing poison in the fins so when they're grilled and served in sake, the combination of the alcohol and toxin makes you feel HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!
